Form and Ecology

Spearow is an aggressive Pokémon found all over the Kanto region, blending the features of a sparrow and a small bird of prey: dark brown feathers cover its head and back, its belly is grey-white, it has a signature red mask-like marking around its eyes, and its beak is sharp and curved, suited to pecking insects and Berries. Its wings are short but strong; it cannot fly high for long, but it can dive-attack at explosive speed (about 60 km/h), and the black spots at the tips of its tail feathers are a flock identification mark.

A highly aggressive social creature, Spearow usually holds treetops or cliffs in groups of 5 to 10 and is fiercely territorial. Wild Spearow will attack creatures that enter their territory on their own initiative, even chasing Pokémon ten times their size. Research shows their aggression is linked to how fast their beak grows: an adult Spearow's beak grows 2cm per month and has to be worn down by pecking hard objects such as rocks and metal, which explains why they so often attack human belongings.

After evolving it grows to 0.8m and 18.0kg, its beak lengthens to 15cm, the feathers on its back turn grey-black, and its tail feathers spread into a fan. The Alola region has a special form (Dark + Flying type) with deep purple feathers and a hook-curved beak, adapted to the ecology of city landfills.
